Now I will share and here's some of the tips I found: If you are using a sub then set speakers to small even if they are actually large and use the low level sub preout to connect to the sub! If you have to or want to use the high, speaker level sub connection then do not run the sub during EQ calibrations as this will badly affect the EQ and bass punch could be missing. These topics: high vs low sub connection, small vs large speakers has much coverage in the sub forum if you want to understand the arguments behind this.

Use a microphone stand or tripod to put the microphone exactly where your ears would be and in mid air. Placing the microphone on a stack of cushions or headrest does not give the most accurate results!

Memroy is convienient. I found 'symmetry' was better for me than 'all channel adjust' or ' front align'. Now run Auto EQ but choose 'keep speaker settings'. Run reverb measurement with EQ off. Check reverb plots with the reverb view or better still upload data to laptop and use the free MCACC software to view the results in more detail and 3D. Basically you are looking for a time as late as possible but without excessive reverb from one or more channels and or one or more frequencies.

In my case the bass was rising steeply and quickly and so the EQ boosted the higher frequencies. By choosing a shorter time, before the bass reverb had risen too much, resulted in less bright EQ. Having decided on a time interval to use, go to EQ Pro, Advanced setup and select the best time for you. To check the results run reverb measurement but this time with 'EQ on' and either check with clunky EQ view or upload to laptop and view the plots in 3D etc with the free MCACC software.

Finally, listen to a CD to see if you like the changes. Last edited: Apr 27, Cheers Mark. I only got my 71 on Saturday so that should help me. Pooon Distinguished Member.

Cheers for the tips mark. I ran the MCACC on saturday only got amp on thursday and i found it resulted in a very bright, trebbly sic? But until reading your little guide i dint have a clue how to adjust the sound, although step 6 completely blow my mind hopefully it'll be more clear when i actually do it for real For placing the mic, i put an elastic band round my head and clipped mic to my forehead.

Thats what worked best for me but as subs interact with rooms very strongly your experience maybe different. Select best positioning, phase, crosssover and gain for sub using REW or your ears if you do not want to get into REW. Without high level the bass killing filter was gone and the slot used higher up in the frequency range. I prefer to use a low level sub connection and even so I am abouts to purchase a dedicated bass management system.

SVS EQ1. There's lots of info on the subject in the subwoofer forum. Last edited: May 26, You also need to be aware that the subs own crossover for high level is likely to be more gentle roll off than the corssover in the AV amp. This can give the effect of apparent more mid bass for hi level connection due to reinforcement with the speakers. You may also notice phase adjustements using a high level connection and the subs own crossover are easier to hear because of this.

Its up to you but I try to aim for a flat responce. I went from high level connection to prefering low level connection. It took a while for me to get used the cleaner less muddy, less boomy sound when using low level connection and AV amp xover. Fijian Scion Standard Member. Excellent overview and clear instructions - thank you. The reason for this is that the other two settings, for symmetry and front focus, they both configure a symmetrical sound stage: meaning that the equalisers on the left speakers are the same as those on the right.

This might sound sensible, however, your listening space may not respond symmetrically to the speakers! For example: your speakers may not be centred in the your room. Or your room itself may not be symmetrical. Or you may have unsymmetrical acoustic surfaces a big window in one wall In my case it made a huge difference, because I have a wall on the right hand side of my listening area much closer than on the left.

I was getting low end reflections off of it into the listening position, meaning that it was too boomy on the right and too bright on the left.
